Jeff Goldblum loved playing Zeus in Netflix’s Kaos

Showrunner Charlie Covell and actor Jeff Goldblum talked with us recently about collaborating on the Netflix series Kaos.  Charlie Covell has been a lifelong avid fan of greek mythology which led to the creation of the show over the course of several years.  They were excited to explore the timeless themes of family relationships and balances of power all the while centering everything around Zeus going through a mid-life crisis.

In taking on the role of Zeus, Jeff Goldblum looked at the task at hand less of a case of playing the king of Gods and more as playing a complicated person with very real emotions.  One facet of the role that he enjoyed immensely was considering the fact that he has lived a much longer life with his marriage having already lasted for over two thousand years.  This allowed him to think about how long certain feelings or emotions had been festering underneath the surface.  Charlie noted that throughout filming Jeff would frequently improvise in character before calling action on filming scenes and for Jeff this helped him to step into the mindset of his character given this level of backstory present.

In creating the show, Charlie Covell wanted to capture the way the story takes place across different realms from Olympus where the Gods reside to the afterlife and through this music was a key component in transporting audiences into the story.
