Michelle Monaghan found that making Bad Monkey took her back to her acting roots

In taking on the role of Bonnie in the AppleTV+ series Bad Monkey, Michelle Monaghan found how it connected her back to her roots as an actor reminding her of her time making Kiss Kiss Bang Bang early on. After making the Netflix series Echoes, she was keen to step back into the comedy world and serendipitously Bill Lawrence then reached out with the script for this show. Being a longtime fan of his writing she was ready to say yes to the project before even reading a single page of the script with her character. Bonnie bought a lot of complexities as a character and Michelle found it helpful to associate her character with the animal of a panther to think about how she moves and is very calculated. She found a lot of texture in playing a woman who is running from her past and trying to learn how to hold herself accountable, but doing so in all the wrong ways. Through each of Bonnie’s missteps she found a lot of space ripe for comedy. In describing working with scene partner Vince Vaughn, she described the experience as someone who really keeps you on your toes and brings out the best in you.
