Johnny Weir & Terrell Ferguson talk being competition judges on Roller Jam

Olympic figure skater Johnny Weir and rollerskating legend Terrell Ferguson are taking on new roles in both of their careers as judges in the new Discovery+ reality competition tv series Roller Jam. They talk about their own experiences receiving critiques throughout their careers and how it has been a crucial part to growing and improving in their crafts. For Johnny Weir, he really enjoyed the opportunity to step into the rollerskating rink for the show having started out with a pair of roller skates before he ever even set foot on ice as a figure skater. Meanwhile Terrell Ferguson found the show to be an opportunity to connect back to his own roots in the sport. As a result of thinking back to their early careers they really wanted their comments to contestants as judges to feel like a form of mentorship and a way to help each of the skaters continue to improve week by week. Through the format of the show which celebrates a different decade each episode and round, they were also able to look at a variety of styles and techniques that each skate team bought to the table week by week. They found that they had a similar alignment during deliberations and scoring but also that sometimes the guest judges joining them each week would bring a different perspective.
