Eddie Redmayne on Becoming the Good Nurse

We recently had the chance to sit down with Eddie Redmayne to talk about his turn in the searing movie, The Good Nurse, in which he plays a character who is anything but good. In preparation, he was able to lean on certain facts and material from the source material of the book written about the true life story of a nurse who took dozens of patients lives over the course of several years, but found video footage to be scarce. For the role he pulled in tools from his experience on The Theory of Everything in working with a choreographer on movement as well as a dialect coach. As an actor, these elements were key to his preparation and he cited how he loves to do the homework ahead of time as this allows for more freedom and discovery in his characters on set. Since the real life person his character was based on rarely exhibited behavior which would have raised suspicion, he lent into the caring dynamic and the narcissism which lay underneath the surface to create his truly chilling performance in the film.
