Chloe Coleman on Getting Stronger for My Spy: The Eternal City

We  caught up with Chloe Coleman to chat about her return as Sophie Newton in the sequel My Spy: The Eternal City.  Having developed the character of Sophie in the original 2020 film My Spy, in which Chloe played nine years old, she was presented with the challenge of adapting her character’s precocious personality to the teenager Sophie is now. Coleman prepared by creating a mood board for Sophie’s clothing and decor styles, and made a playlist of the music she might like to listen to (something spunky, to reflect all of her thrilling stunts).

Beyond using her playlist as motivation during stunt takes, Coleman began physical preparation from the moment she received the script, training in martial arts, skydiving and scuba diving.  She was empowered by the physical confidence that her training instilled, and was proud to be able to do her own stunts (even driving a vespa before ever driving a car!). Sophie’s strength carries over into her bond with JJ (Dave Bautista), and as Chloe noted, she ultimately overcomes her teenage rebelliousness to protect her father figure at all costs.

Watch the full conversation below.

JJ, a veteran CIA agent, reunites with his protégé Sophie, in order to prevent a catastrophic nuclear scheme aimed at the Vatican, which disrupts a high school choir trip to Italy.
