Freddie Prinze Jr. and Monica Potter on Keeping it Spontaneous for The Girl in the Pool

We were joined by Freddie Prinze Jr. and Monica Potter for a conversation on playing an affluent couple complicated by infidelity in The Girl in the Pool. Prinze Jr. described his acting style as rather calculated, deciding on a choice for a given moment and sticking with it.  Whereas Potter, even though her character is “very type-A”, relies heavily on impulse in her work, and in Freddie’s words, “can give you twenty different versions” of one scene.  Having worked together in the past, they knew that their differing approaches would bring a fun dynamic to their scenes, and allow them to explore unexpected choices.

Freddie (Thomas) used insecurity as the core quality that causes his character's sanity to unravel throughout the film: Thomas reacts with vulnerability whether someone is criticizing or complimenting him.  In working with director Dakota Gorman to bring the Hitchcock-inspired thriller to life, the duo enjoyed her flexibility and her openness to ideas. Ultimately, Freddie and Monica were especially united by their struggle not to let Kevin Pollack (William) make them break character during filming.
