Sophie Nélisse on Going Darker in Yellowjackets Season 2

Sophie Nélisse has been blowing audiences away with her performance as Shauna in Yellowjackets for two seasons and she joined us to talk about the experience of performing on the show with all its rich emotional complexities. It’s always been important to her to be able to step outside the darker tone of the show between takes, even more so with season two going to darker places. She shared how Shauna’s friendship with Jackie was such a driving force for the character and how the experience of her character saying goodbye to her best friend allowed her to find more of her voice.

With Shauna’s pregnancy further along in season two, it was very much about survival for the two of them and the constant thought of having someone to protect other than herself. She spoke about the experience of filming the harrowing birth scene this season and how episode director Liz Garbus and the rest of the cast all gave her so much support throughout. One of the highlights of filming has been the close friendships developed amongst the cast, something which she is incredibly grateful for in the experience of working on the show.

Q&A on the Showtime series Yellowjackets with actor Sophie Nélisse. Moderated by Mara Webster, In Creative Company.

Part survival epic, part psychological horror and part coming-of-age drama, this is the story of a team of wildly talented high school girls' soccer players who survive a plane crash deep in the remote northern wilderness. The series chronicles their descent from a complicated but thriving team to savage clans, while also tracking the lives they’ve attempted to piece back together 25 years later. What began in the wilderness is far from over.
