Debora Cahn, Keri Russell, and Cast of The Diplomat on Crafting Witty Political Drama

We had the chance to sit down with the cast and creator of Netflix’s latest hit show The Diplomat. Creator and showrunner Debora Cahn spoke to how she crafted the witty political drama, while lead actress Keri Russell continuously praised the writing as the guiding star for her powerhouse performance.

We also had the chance to talk with support cast members Rufus Sewell, Ato Essandoh, Ali Ahn, and David Gyasi who equally praised Cahn’s incredible writing and spoke to how they worked with the pacing and rhythm of the scripts in scenes.

For all of the cast the subtext of scenes gave a lot of richness to play to with the fact that whilst their characters are discussing the political climate of the world, their interpersonal dynamics are being quietly expressed beneath the surface.
