Rob Delaney on Working With Michelle Williams in Dying for Sex

Rob Delaney immediately said yes to playing Neighbor Guy in the FX series Dying for Sex. He noted that it was a lot of fun to get to play the first scene where we meet his character because he is his most awful and disgusting self in this moment. However over the arc of the series he gradually lets his walls down and finds connection with Michelle Williams’ character as the two find an unconventional love story that brings them together.

His first day on set with Michelle involved him actually being off screen and simply heard through the wall in a scene. He immediately found that this set the landscape of their working relationship together and the trust they were able to very quickly build.

Neighbor Guy has been closing himself off to the world after a breakup leaving him wounded and as a result this created a real journey in being able to arc out the way he reconnects with the world around him again. Through this he also found that there were lots of moment to be able to play to both unique romantic gestures specific to the characters doing things in their own way and also the comedy of the show. All of this bled into the overall tone of the series for him.
