Aldis Hodge on Bringing Cross to Life

Aldis Hodge not only takes on the lead role of Alex Cross in the series Cross but also stepped on board as an Executive Producer, something he has been excited to grow in his repertoire in the industry. It was an exciting opportunity to bring his wealth of experience to.

He immediately had a sense of who Cross was when reading the first few pages of the script and through this was able to lean heavily into his instincts in building and developing the character. When we meet Cross at the beginning of the series he’s still processing extreme grief from the loss of his wife and has a lot of unanswered questions about what happened, something which immediately set the space for his arc throughout the season. He got to explore Cross’ journey trying to learn how to communicate and move through his grief with his best friend by his side for support and sometimes brutal honesty. He also found his characters role as a father centralized a huge amount of his motivations in trying to find answers for everything.

It was a fun opportunity to get to step into his skillset and intelligence often looking at how the character tries to read details and cues around him. However he also allowed for blind spots, particularly since he discovers he perhaps shouldn’t have been so quick to trust some of the people around him by the end of season one.
