Natalie Dormer talks about how the tension never lets up in her film The Wasp
Natalie Dormer shared her experience in making the film The Wasp and how it explores two women who both experienced elements of childhood trauma and how this plays out in adulthood. Dormer was keen to express that despite the heavy subject matter, there is still lightness and humor within the story. She enjoyed the way that the story is very much a two hander between her and Naomie Harris and found a lot of trust in her as a scene partner. The film was adapted from a play and created a lot of interesting elements in the material as a result for her. During the rehearsal process both Dormer and Harris honed in on their characters and built an incredibly strong rapport. Dormer spoke to her character growing up in a household which forced her to grow up too quickly and how this lead to a lot of her traits and actions in life. Her character is someone who is a survivor and has always had to be so she hasn't always had the luxury of taking care of herself. For her the physicality of the character was just as important especially in portraying someone who is pregnant and how she wanted this to inform a lot of her movement in scenes. It's a film she holds closely from the experience in making it and the connection she built with her character
