Matt Bomer on Fellow Travelers and working with Jonathan Bailey

Matt Bomer recently joined us to talk about taking on the role of Hawk in Fellow Travelers alongside Jonathan Bailey.  Early on he felt that Hawk was a character who had become disconnected from their inner child and spent a lot of time trying to think about the different ways in which he is constantly trying to reconnect with this part of himself.  He also discovered the literal connection between his characters name and how a hawk often hones in on things with a lot of focus, which he found to be very true of who he was throughout the story.  Jonathan Bailey was a scene partner that he had immediate trust with in playing the richness and complexity of their relationship over the course of many years.  One of the biggest challenges was charting the changes in Hawk over the years, because there weren't drastic physical changes but instead a lot of internal emotional shifts from his journey.  He carried the importance of telling such a vital and important story as well as a character who never got the chance to fully be himself in the world and the tragedy this creates within him.
