Carrie Coon loved sharing the screen with Elizabeth Olsen & Natasha Lyonne in His Three Daughters

Carrie Coon joined us to talk about her latest movie His Three Daughters, out now currently on Netflix. She immediately loved the depth of the text and felt it told her exactly who her character Katie was. She describes Katie as someone who is emotionally immature and so even when she apologizes to people, it still comes up short.

The movie opens with her character delivering a monologue in front of her sisters, a scene which she found daunting purely because it was the first scene they filmed of the entire movie. The script gave her lots of specificity throughout to the point that she knew this opening monologue wouldn’t cut away from her and would be delivered standing in front of a white wall.

Because they filmed everything in order it allowed her to find a lot of the emotion of the journey along the way because they were living out the story in real time. Through this, it meant that by the time they reached the later scenes it allowed her and her castmates, Elizbaeth Olsen and Natasha Lyonne to instinctively find their way together.

The cast bonded instantly especially because they were filming inside of a real new york city apartment living out the close quarters their characters find themselves in. One of their favorite things to do during their downtime was to complete the New York Times word puzzle Queen Bee with Coon noting how much of an afficionado Lyonne is at these.
