Squid Game Cast Talk Character Arcs and “Red Light, Green Light”

We chatted with Lee Jung-jae and Oh Young-soo, who you may also know the as player numbers 1 and 456 from Netflix Squid Game.  The two of them shared details on the complexities of their characters as well as what it was like to film certain scenes from the show.

Lee Jung-jae spoke about how he took his character from someone who had more of a frenetic energy at the beginning to someone who has a real stillness inside after all they experience throughout the series and how he worked to carefully shape this arc throughout the show.  He found filming the game ‘Red Light, Green Light’ to be the most daunting of all, simply because it was the first game and he felt a responsibility in making sure the story and his character connected to the audience through their fear.

Oh Young-soo shared what it was like to play a character where there were so many details he couldn’t give away in his performance, as well as how he decided where his character was fully present against where his dementia was more present and informed the scene.

The two of them also took the chance to talk about filming their final scene together in the show and all the complexities which came with this.
