Sarah Catherine Hook on Stepping Into The White Lotus
Sarah Catherine Hook shares what it was like to step into the world of The White Lotus in playing Piper., She filmed the series immediately after wrapping filming on Cruel Intentions which meant she had to make the switch between two juxtaposing characters in a short space of time but it was a process she relished. She immediatley found that once she landed in Thailand and met the rest of the cast playing Piper’s family members that everything clicked into place.
In talking about Piper’s relationship with her mother Victoria she spoke to how they share different values but ultimately care about each other and how this created a lot of layers for her and Parker Posey to explore. Meanwhile she found Piper to have a closer relationship with her father played by Jason Isaacs describing her as a Daddy’s girl.
Throughout the series we learn that Piper has an ulterior motive for coming to Thailand as she wants to move to the country and spend a year as part of a spiritual retreat. A move which her parents are at first opposed to with her mother Victoria even referring to the idea of her moving to ‘Taiwan’ as absurd since she doesn’t quite take the time to take in the details. Having also explored the teachings of Buddhism herself, Sarah Catherine found that she shared a real kinship with the journey Piper is on, referring to her as being like a little sister to her.
