Peyton List on capturing the afterlife in School Spirits
Peyton List was thrilled to be returning to season 2 of School Spirits especially because she had always seen her character Maddie as an everyday person who ends up in unusual circumstances. When first taking on the role this is one of the things that drew her to Maddie the most, in seeing how she wasn’t the most popular girl at her high school and getting to explore what this means when she goes missing.
During season 1 of the show she received scripts and details of what was going to happen story wise as they were filming and realized she loved the process being this way so she could be surprised, and was glad it stayed the same way for the new season.
In stepping into the role one of the unique challenges was how blocking scenes became very different given that there are a number of characters in the show who can’t see Maddie since she haunts the school grounds as a spirit. This led to conversations in how to position herself in scenes or who she could make eye contact with being a little more unconventional.
Friendship has always been a core part of the show, especially for Maddie and one of the things Peyton noted enjoying in season 2 is getting to deepen the friendships she has been building with the other spirits now that she has been with them for a longer period of time.
