Paul Mescal on Playing a Father in Aftersun

Paul Mescal joined us to talk about his latest role in the searing A24 drama Aftersun in which he plays a father on holiday with his daughter who he is trying to connect with whilst also experiencing a lot beneath the surface. He shared what it was like to film so many scenes where his character is trying to suppress his emotions in front of his daughter as we often see him through her perspective in the film. It was important to both him, and director Charlotte Wells, that it be clear how much love his character has as a parent and that he is someone trying to do his best but just battling a lot of his own emotions and feelings at the same time. He also spoke about filming the choreographed dance sequences with his older self.
