Kali Reis on crafting her character in True Detective: Night Country

We spoke to Kali Reis about the richness of playing her character Navarro in True Detective: Night Country.  When diving into the scripts she immediately saw Navarro as a Scorpion and often loves to consider the star sign of a character in who they might be.  She also looked at the aspects of someone who has previously served in the military and needed to be quite regimented, but now is trying to be more in touch with their softer side.  For Reis, the relationship her character has with her sister was pivotal in understanding her, since this is the one person in the world who has shared experiences from a complicated childhood.  In working with Jodie Foster she found a lot of connectivity with Foster as a scene partner and loved the way their two characters gradually open up to and trust each other more as the series progresses.
