John Cameron Mitchell on Becoming the Tiger King for Joe vs. Carole

John Cameron Mitchell spoke to us about his transformation as Joe Exotic in the Peacock series Joe vs. Carole. He spoke to how he wanted to be truthful to his actions, discover where his actions stemmed from but not excuse his behavior and the balance of all these elements. He also shared how the physicality of the character from the mullet hairstyle to the elaborate shirts and even the boots helped him to find the character.

Based on the second season of Wondery's "Over My Dead Body" podcast, Carole Baskin, a big-cat rescuer, commences a crusade to end GW Zoo owner Joe Exotic's animal shows and cub-breeding business. When Joe's livelihood is threatened, he retaliates, inciting a 10-year feud between the two big-cat lovers that finds them becoming sworn enemies. With the past informing the present, Carole and Joe's fight is messy, vicious and outrageous, ultimately ending in an attempted murder.
