The Cast of Inventing Anna Discuss the Addictive New Netflix Series
Mara Webster chatted with cast members Julia Garner, Anna Chlumsky, Katie Lowes, Laverne Cox, Alexis Floyd and Arian Moayed from Netflix's new series, Inventing Anna.
Discussing how she found the voice of Anna Delvy, Julia Garner spoke to how she started off with a German accent layered a Russian accent on top with an Americanized delivery. For the Ozark star, it was the hardest accent she has ever done.
Anna Chlumsky’s character is tasked with finding out Who is Anna Delvy? To figure out the life of the German heiress, she interacts with Anna's closest friends to put together the narrative. In doing so she creates a special space for every character she interacts with to get the information she is looking for and this allowed her to work uniquely with each of her scene partners.
For Laverne Cox, she approached the character of Kacy by figuring out what her tragic flaw is. To her, Kacy comes from a genuine place of wanting to be of service, and sometimes that gets taken advantage of.
Alexis Floyd thinks of her character of Neff as the "keeper of the keys." She starts out with an agenda on using Anna but as their friendship deepens through their shared vulnerabilities she finally feels invited and seen.
When it came to her character, Katie Lowes plays Rachel with optimism and intelligence while not making her seem naive to the audience. Katie wanted the audience to feel like they would have made a similar decision as her. When filming in Morroco she felt that she was able to put herself in Rachel's shoes and feel those fears of the high stakes at hand.
Sharing what Shona Rhimes shared to him about his character, Arian Moayed remembers her saying that "he's a good guy and trying to make a name for himself." A lot of the crux of his character Todd is focused on climbing up the ladder.
