Laura Dern and Jayme Lemons on the Comedy and Emotional Fragility of Palm Royale

We met with Laura Dern and Jayme Lemons to talk about producing and acting in their new series Palm Royale. The show is based on the book Mr. and Mrs. American Pie by Juliet McDaniel and they highlighted that the feminism, setting, and female characters in the story drew them in and piqued their interest in creating a screen adaptation. They decided that the best ways to express these ideas while using comedy was through satire and unreliable narrators. Both Laura and Jayme expressed the importance of finding a space for cultural and political conversation in the show and how the emphasis they placed on setting the tone for all departments that worked on the series. Laura also expressed how meaningful it was to work with her father on set and her appreciation for her production partners.
